Age gap

Yesterday, a colleague's 13 yr old daughter called me 'aunty'.
Now, disconcerting as that is, it got me all thinking.
There should be a universally established 'age gap' beyond which a younger person can address the other older person as uncle / aunty!

The next time she calls me aunty - I'm gonna start callin her mom - my colleague that is - AUNTY!
- A 25 year old.

As you grow older is when you seem to 'know what you want'.
Kids always wanna 'be grown up'

Don't know why, but I suddenly feel a bit philosophical today.
It is 2:03 PM 11th Mar 09.

I suddenly miss being a child
Leading a life without a single worry
without expectations
without disappointments
without having to work hard or save money
or buy new stuff
or 'plan' to have fun
or brag about how you're leading a happy life
one way or the other.

I want to become a child again.
Live without a single worry....

Miss my parents' home
Miss my mother, father, grandparents and brother.

You keep right when you drive..
There are no ceiling fans..
Sunshine is rare
(So are curry leaves)
And there are four different seasons
You feel closer to your culture and customs here
You are a handicap without a car
And within a very short span of time,
you find that you catch Tamil movies online...
and also realize you are a great cook!
Switch on the TV and on all the local channels,
you hear the word 'world' being interchangeably used with 'America'!

Saw this Tamil movie called 'Saroja' today - A thoroughly entertaining comedy-thriller.. Venkat Prabhu and SP Charan sure seem to know the pulse of the Tamil youth.

As someone who likes to travel, here I go - about my trip last weekend to Mackinaw Island, Michigan - a beautiful, romantic getaway. The first thing that draws your attention about this island is the fact that automobiles are forbidden here; bicycles and horse-carts are the only modes of transport available! There are ferries every half hour from the MacKinaw City on one side and from St.Ignace on the other. The cruise of about 20 - 30 mins lands you on the picturesque piece of land, well known for its horses, bikes and fudge!

Fort Mackinac, the Grand Hotel, Arch rock and the butterfly conservatory are some of the noted points of interest. As soon as I hit the island, I took the carriage tour. But, found it painfully slow. The horses are spoilt I must say; they seemed to stop wherever they found a tree's shade! So, after a while, I got off the horse cart and got on the bike.. That was the best thing I did...
Biking was a truly refreshing and energizing experience. I biked around the circumference of the island, a total of 8 miles, along the shores of Lake Huron.
There is also parasailing on the island, btw!
The lunch at the tea room, a division of Grand Hotel on the fort, offered not only good food, but a great view of the Marquette park, the lake and ships too.

My post here will not be complete without a mention of the Mackinaw Bridge - the longest suspension bridge in the Western hemisphere. It is a structural wonder that connects MacKinaw City and St. Ignace. The bridge is usually not open to pedestrians. However, I got a chance to see thousands of people walk the bridge on Labor Day - a once in a year event!

I honestly haven't met too many people who seem to know of this holiday destination.
I recommend this vacation spot to all!
