Age gap

Yesterday, a colleague's 13 yr old daughter called me 'aunty'.
Now, disconcerting as that is, it got me all thinking.
There should be a universally established 'age gap' beyond which a younger person can address the other older person as uncle / aunty!

The next time she calls me aunty - I'm gonna start callin her mom - my colleague that is - AUNTY!
- A 25 year old.

Flaasophy

Once you're married, you always are.
One you have a child, you're always a parent.
As you grow older is when you seem to 'know what you want'.
Kids always wanna 'be grown up'
and grown-ups wish they 'get younger'.

Feelin philosophical

Don't know why, but I suddenly feel a bit philosophical today.
It is 2:03 PM 11th Mar 09.

I suddenly miss being a child
Leading a life without a single worry
without expectations
without disappointments
without having to work hard or save money
or buy new stuff
or 'plan' to have fun
or brag about how you're leading a happy life
one way or the other.

I want to become a child again.
Live without a single worry....

Miss my parents' home
Miss my mother, father, grandparents and brother.

My favorites:

Eating a hot pakora on a rainy afternoon,
Catching a very less crowded PTC back home from office,
A sudden unexpected holiday,
Long conversations with an old friend after a long time,
Afternoon naps that follow a heavy three-course South Indian elai sappaadu,
A gripping novel,
the newspaper supplements,
the Diwali day each year,
Shopping that 'korathi maalai' and a wrap-around from the pavement shops,
All things purple,
The Pondicherry mother,
Madras nalla Madras,
Reading an inspirational story or article once in a while,
Being surrounded by a whole bunch of close friends / family members,
Getting decked up for dinner at a fine restaurant,
more so - eating to your heart's content there,
chaat / masala chai from a wayside shop,
talking, more talking , more and more talking,
My grandmom,
and
I,Me, myself!

The Land Of:

Filter kaapi
HINDU paper and
Fm radio in the morning hours
December season kutcheri
Aadi thallupadi
Senthamizh and Chennai Tamizh,
Thalaivar fans and
the dhraavidian parties - They have been ruling the roost for decades together now!
The good old MTCs.. some wearing a cool new look
The notorious 'meterukku mela kekkum' autokaar and
the bumpy share autos!
Stella maris, gangotree, ispahani centre
Anokhi, amethyst and mocha
The high-end khadar nawaz khan road
The all time festive Ranganathan Street
The anna nagar vs. besant nagar folks' clashes
The refreshing theosophical society,Sathyam cinemas and
besant nagar beach - its masala kadalai and molaga bhajji!
outsiders only know chennai for its marina and spencers
also probably the lame city center...
But true blue chennaiites know more
and know better!
Chennai - the former 'Madras' - totally rulez!!
